Crafting Process
Each sign is cut from high-quality slate and hand-finished to highlight the unique grain and texture of the stone. The artwork and text are laser-engraved directly into the surface, ensuring the design will not fade or peel regardless of the British weather. The natural grey-to-black palette of the slate provides a sophisticated backdrop that makes the lighter grey engraving "pop" for high visibility from the kerbside.
Care & Maintenance
Natural slate is incredibly durable, but a little TLC will keep your "wee hairy beasties" looking sharp for decades.
- Initial Cleaning: Your sign arrives freshly engraved. To enhance the natural deep charcoal tones of the stone, you can wipe the surface with a lint-free cloth and a tiny drop of natural slate oil or even a standard food-grade mineral oil.
- General Cleaning: Over time, outdoor dust or splashing rain may dull the surface. Simply wipe the sign down with a damp cloth and mild soapy water. Avoid abrasive sponges or harsh chemical cleaners, as these can scratch the honed surface.
- Maintaining Contrast: If the engraving appears to fade when wet, don't worry—this is a natural property of stone. Once the sign dries, the light-grey contrast of the laser etching will return to its full clarity.
- Algae & Moss: If your sign is positioned in a particularly damp or shaded area, a quick wipe-down every few months will prevent any natural moss build-up from settling into the riven edges.
