The Crafting Process
Every sign is individually cut from high-quality slate and finished in our workshop. We use precision laser technology to etch the Highland Cow family and your house number directly into the stone. This process creates a permanent, light-grey mark that contrasts beautifully against the dark slate, ensuring your address remains highly visible from the kerbside even in rainy conditions.
Care & Maintenance
Natural slate is incredibly durable, but a little TLC will keep your "hairy herd" looking sharp for decades.
-
Initial Cleaning: Your sign arrives freshly engraved. To enhance the natural deep charcoal tones of the stone, you can wipe the surface with a lint-free cloth and a tiny drop of natural slate oil or food-grade mineral oil.
-
General Cleaning: Simply wipe the sign down with a damp cloth and mild soapy water. Avoid abrasive sponges or harsh chemical cleaners, as these can scratch the honed surface.
-
Maintaining Contrast: If the engraving appears to fade when wet, don't worry—this is a natural property of stone. Once dry, the light-grey contrast of the laser etching will return to its full clarity.
-
Algae & Moss: If positioned in a damp or shaded area, a quick wipe-down every few months will prevent any natural moss buildup from settling into the riven edges.
